OK, at the mo I'm cutting two shorts. I've just got premiere 6 which i'll admit I'm not used to. The only problem I'm having is with transitions. Basically I want to fade one shot into another. Not hard right?
Heres the weird part. No matter what transition I pick (cross, additive, non additive) it just fades the shot to black. Every dissolve i use just fades the shot to black, ignoring the shot immediatly following it. What the **** is going on? worked fine in final cut.

just checking but doesnt premier have a
Video 1A
Video 1B
and then Video's 2,3,4....whatever stacked above these?
You have expand video track 1, so you can see 1A and 1B, then put clip1 onto video track 1A, put clip2 onto video track 1B and the transition in the middle. This should fade from A to B, across the transition. Is that what you are doing?
Alternatively you can do a cross fade like this:
clip1 onto video track1, clip2 onto video track2.
then expand video track2, and click and drag the red line, which controls the brightness (I think) of the image. If you create a ramp, from 0 up to full, then it should fade up clip2.
Hope that helps.
Let me know if its not this.

Which of the two methods that Eddie suggested did you try? Is one easier than the other?
